Teflon

Hi there everyone.

Is there anyone out there, I'm looking at you Keith , who can tell me where I can purchase teflon pads and teflon sheets?

I'm planning to construct a dob type mount for a refractor.

I'm in work at the moment but I will check later but I am pretty sure I have some pieces/strips spare. I'll take a picture and measurements and you can decide whether it suits your purposes. Its not suitable and you end up having to buy some, then I got mine from Scopestuff from the states. You could ask on Stargazers lounge for a more local source. Fraid I can't help you with that one as I got a permanent ban from that place. Long story :rolleyes:

OK Paul. All pieces are about 4mm thick. This means they are too thin to affix with a countersunk screw. I sanded the bottom to give them a key and they held fine with bog standard double sided tape. I've 3 pads that are 50mm X 25mm.

I also have 2 strips of etched teflon that can be glued/contact cemented in place because the teflon is chemically etched on one side. These strips are about 15mm X 200mm and can be cut to size obviously.

I've no need for any of it.

Dave, I satirised the posting style of some guy in what I thought was a friendly teasing manner as his posting style is very difficult to read and which others have also commented on. I thought the satire would shine a mirror on it so he could see what we meant and realise that he risked most people not understanding his points. Backfired big time. He reported the post for personal abuse and started a new thread telling everyone he was leaving because of same. He started ranting about how I had a vendetta against him and was following him around the forums for the last year. In that context, the mods agreed the post was personal abuse and I was given a permanent ban. Several posters who had read my post before it was deleted by the mods cautioned that the intent of posts could be misinterpretted but changed their minds in the context of the 'Vendetta' and 'Stalking' information. The rest of the 'Leaving' thread was people begging him to stay and lots of disparaging remarks about me despite the fact that hardly anyone got to read the offending post themselves nor had I any opportunity to explain myself. (Account banned and no replies from the mods/admins to my emails)

I garnered this and other information by setting up another account to get access to the General forum where this was all going on (guests cannot access General forum)(Account subsequently also banned by mods)

I was totally taken off guard by all this and my Jaw was on the floor reading all this WTF!! From my recollection of what I posted I could only think of two parts of the post that could have been misinterpretted assuming the the style of the post copying the other guys style was not in and off itself personal abuse. With no answer from the mods to my emails I posted my 'Peace' with the new account forgetting that first posts are premoderated to weed out spambots. So my explanation/apology never got posted and the new account was also banned and still no contact from the mods.

I went through my posting history and then the other guys. We had one interaction in May last year where I disagreed with him. His comments to me were disparaging or it at least looked that way due to his confusing posting style, so in my response I used the rolleyes smiley. He seemed to have taken great offence to that at the time. I've never interacted with him since although we did post in a handful of the same threads in the last year. I never addressed him or his posts nor him mine. I couldn't understand where this vendetta and stalking he was alluding to was coming from. That was until I came across some other posts of his after going through his posting history for answers (The only 'stalking' I did I assure you). Every second post of his on the forum seems to slag Dr Brian Cox. (Obsessive??) He has directly threatened to leave on at least one previous occasion and alluded to leaving in random postings in other threads on several other occasions. (Attention Seeker??) In response to someone posting about some abusive behaviour they suffered on the streets, he comforted them and told them how there are always total strangers walking up to him on the street and for no reason calling him names like Short arse and Pedo. (Paranoid??)

I guess the mods over there think that if they let me back in, he would go and they decided he was more valuable to the forum. Thats the only reason I can think of given the zero contact even after the new information and context. ie. No vendetta or stalking, a poster who is obviously delicate mentally (if I knew that in advance I would have known the satirical post might not go down well regardless of my intent) I didn't even remember our previous interaction till this all blew up. I can kind of understand the clique rallying around a member with mental problems but are they going to ban everyone he imagines is abusing/stalking him in the future? Could they not privately ask me to setup a new anonymous account and keep out of his way.

Anyway, the only reason I've gone into so much detail here is that I know there are several members in common between these forums and I use the same username in both and would hate to think that people here saw the kerfuffle thought I was some kind of online bully or troll without my side of the story.

you get over sensitive, self obsessed nut jobs everywhere. All the same, some kinds of humour and so on dont come across well on bulliten boards.

Shame that even after offering an apology that they decided to nuke you.

I think (especially with our weather) a dash of humuor is a good thing. But its something to be used carefully as Dave says.
