Firm fights to sell moon real estate was created by Seanie_Morris
For sale: acre plots, great Earth views, low gravity, moonrock-bottom prices, about as away from it all as you can get.
A Chinese company is fighting for the right to pitch plots of land on the moon for sale after authorities shut the scheme down on charges of profiteering and lunacy.

Whoever sets up a base there first will claim it. And probably cite maratime law.
Remember under maratime law Greenpeace own Rockall[1] now due to staying there to 42 days. Rock on Rockall you'll never fall...
Cheers,
~Al
[1] ok thats not quite true prior to 1997 the UK claimed it as teritory, they changed their minds after greenpeace set up rockall as the capital of Waveland (seriously). The Republic and the UK have agreed to split it and each take a chunk of the continental shelf. Discussions are still apprently going on with Iceland and Denmark to avoid the UN getting involved, and the US trying to liberate it from the gannets.

Whoever owns the moon and whatever the current legal state of play is, there is a serious amount of money to be made from owning the moon. Whoever *does* own it will change the dynamics of the cheese market forever.
On a more truthful subject I seem to remember a guy in the US, in recent years, sending NASA an invoice for parking charges associated with the asteroid they landed a probe on. He of course was the owner. The article I red though did point out that the meneral composition of the object was such that the billion or so tons of material comprising it was actually quite valuable...
Do I get some kind of partial ownership of SN2005EP I wonder....
Cheers
Dave
