Just an curious bit for you. Having watched Apollo 13 recently (again..), I was asked if I would have gone on the trip, or why even the 3 astronauts in question (Lovell, Swagert, and Haise) would have wanted to go back into space after that potentially life-threatening ordeal. I said I would, even if I knew it was to be like the way the movie portrayed it.

I mean, if you had the chance to go into space, and experience the wonder of it all, knowing a life-threatening catastrophe was to hppen, yet you would still come back alive... hell yeah!

Seanie If you KNEW you were gonna come back alive as in your question, then it's not a life threatning situation is it? However if you didn't know if you were gonna make it then I wouldn't go, I have to much to do in life. I would't risk that for one trip into space. OTOH, space travel has been relatively safe. So If I had no foreknowledge of a potential problem, just the knowledge that there is always that risk, then I'd go.

I think every astronaut is well aware of the dangers associated with space flight. I'm sure that they consider Apollo 13 a success, but consider the possibility of ending up like Challenger or Columbia a real possibility.

I think the question of risk is always implied when you ask someone if they would like to shoot above the earth.

For me it's a yes. So few people get the opportunity I think you'd be crazy not to, despite the risk.

The Russians will oblige if you give them a paltry $25 million or so.

More people die from car crashes than space accidents :-) And I'd much rather die on the way to the Moon than on the N7!
