Convert Cannon 300D into 10D!

There's an article in this month's PC Live mag., pg32, re. using a file download and simple firmware upgrade to modify the 300D to include the features of the more costly 10D. :idea:

You format a CF card, save the firmware to it via PC, and insert into the camera. The camera will recognise the firmware and give you directions on the LCD screen on how to proceed. :twisted:

This is all above me at the mo, as the only part of the jigsaw I have is D. Lillis' remote shutter release cable!!! :roll:

Just to warn that you will lose your Canon warranty by implementing the hack. Basically it uncripples a lot of the functions that would be available on the 300D that Canon wanted to have for the 10D only.

Keep an eye out for the 350D these days too.

Prior to implementing the software hack (which is totally safe), one should save the current firmware (vers 1.1) on disk and/or their computer so that it can be reinstalled in the event the camera has to go back to Canon for any service. By reinstalling the original firmware (vers 1.0 or 1.1), there is no need to worry about voided warranties etc.

I installed the hacked software into my canon today and it seems to work fine. The camera is out of warrenty so it makes no differance in that sence.

What does it give you now (at a glance) that as a 300D firmware'd camera it didn't?
