a quick pic of mars on the nearest night!

Fellow Martian viewers.
Despite the wind and occasional rain, I got a quick image of it on the night of closest distance, It was so big in the eyepiece, I felt the need to duck out of the way as it passed bye :lol:

The polar cap is back!

Dave - nice image. It's pretty clear and the colour looks good too.

Is that the N or S polar cap? I'm a bit of a Martian dunce I'm afraid :oops:

Also, can you post up your imaging details? That'd be handy.

Not as clear as I'd like it Dave,
Thats through the 12" SCT with a 2x barlow with the toucam, I stacked 400 images out of 2000 frame AVI, irregardless of the quality factor.
If I put it to 90%, it used only 80 frames.!

Given that the scope inverts the image (no diaganal used), south is top and north is bottom, so that polar cap on the top is the southern pole.

Nice image Dave. Is that the dust storm, the slight round yellow tinge at 2 oclock, just below the polar cap?

Unfortunately not, I've had a few false alarms with that storm, but once I found out where it is, I make out it wont be visible from Ireland until the end of the week or so as it needs to rotate into the field of view,
of course, unless there is another dust storm :lol:

Eh, no it's not! You must have inverted the image somehow. The South Polar Cap is the tiny little button at 7 o'clock. The blue haze at the top is the North Polar Hood. Nice image!
