New CCD Cameras. was created by DaveGrennan
Just been looking at Orion (US) new offerings. They are in fact, rebadged SAC imaging cameras. Looks like great value for anyone on a budget.

752 x 568 and Thermo cooled too for only $399USD
There's also a planetary version for $99USD

Dont know much else about them but they seem like very good value to me.

Excellent value and with MaximDL essentials software, a very tasty deal.
But as with any competition, this is great news for us. Meade et al will be looking to offer up better deals soon enough. Who knows, SBIG might even get into this end of the market.
Cheers and thanks for the heads up

A friend of mine is in the states at the moment and I asked him to get me a Meade DSI pro with colour filter set, would I be better off getting the Orion Starshoot?
Thanks,
Keith

You know, keith I think you would be better off with the starshoot. Now in saying that I qualify by saying, I have no experience of them. But just look at the specs. Better resolution and thermoelectrically cooled. Its hard to argue with that. SAC-imaging (where the cameras come from) have a good reputation. They make decent gear at good prices. If somebody held a gun to my head and asked starshoot or DSI, I'd have to go with the starshoot.
