Wow! The sky was the brightest i have ever seen it! i could see the milky way in salthill which is less than a mile from galway city! the amount of light pollution is far from funny! unfortunately my camera couldnt see the milky way! Im actually getting a bit bored of photographing the same things! heres orion. AGAIN! i took it with trees just for martin!

I know ive asked this question before and i was told the answer but have forgotten, What constellation is this?

Hopefully me and my father will be upgrading camera(maybe canon eos 300/350d) along with our telescope(hopefully 8" lx series by meade!)

Im sure most of ye out there know that constellation!
Thanks
Matthew C

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time. . . .

hi Matthew,

welcome to the boards!

that constellation is definitely Taurus. The bright orange star in the picture is Aldebaran while the "arrowhead" pattern of fainter stars is the Hyades star cluster. Some info on the Hyades at www.seds.org/messier/xtra/ngc/hyades.html

Well done Matthew.

If you are getting bored photographing the same things be assured we're NOT getting bored looking at them:)

If you do wanna add a bit of spice to the mix why not consider framing some of your shots around some of the sights in galway etc. Maybe some of the more famous buildings etc. Context always makes for a much more interesting photo for the viewer as wello as the photographer.

Hi Matthew,

Nice shots for tripod based photos.

One way you could improve your shots for very little money is to look into a "barn door" mount.

These allow much longer shots and can be made for less than €20.

There is plenty of usefull information on these mounts on the web.

Jed

Nicely done Matthew! And dave has a good point - mixing astrohotography with landscapes, especially at night (as you have seen here from other photos) can be quite rewarding! It will give you a chance to also experiment with exposure times vs ISO settings etc. Got for it!
