Lunar Halo with Mars was created by ayiomamitis
Dear Friends,

After stepping outside to examine the potential for some work this evening related to the evening sky, I regrettably encountered some wispy clouds to go along with the cold temperatures. Of course, this is the perfect recipe for the 22-degree halo of the nearly full moon (with Mars!) depicted at www.perseus.gr/Astro-Lunar-Scenes-Halo.htm and, as a result, the evening was somewhat productive (albeit brief).

Photo details are as follows:

Date: December 13, 2005 / 18:40:55 - 18:41:05 UT+2
Location: Athens, Greece (38.2997° N, 23.7430° E)
Equipment: Canon EOS 300d, Canon EOS EF-S 18-55 mm @ 24 mm / f4.0
Exposure(s): 2 x 4.0 sec, ISO 800, 3072x2048 Image Size, Manual Mode
Software: Canon FileViewer V1.3.2, Photoshop CS-II
Processing: Layers and Lighten, Resampling, JPG Compression

Hi Dave,

As you can see, NO imaging opportunity goes wasted!

As for the temporary clouds, I called the "big guy" long distance so as to make this photo possible.

Hi Martin,

I am happy you approve, for I know you also pursue atmospheric phenomena as well.

Actually we may have killer imaging opportunities given these conditions. Time will tell.
