The ones that got away!! was created by DaveGrennan
During an astrophotographers career there are many image sets which don't quite make it to publication for various reasons. Sometimes the guiding is not quite right, sometimes its the colour balance or even a dreaded gradient which doesn't respond well. Anyway with nothing but cloud recently I revisted some of these to see if there was anything worth salvaging. I dug out five images
M31, M106, NGC 7331, NGC772, M74 all galaxies funnily enough. I've posted all five images plus a brief explaination of why they didn't 'make the cut' and end up in my main gallery.
The five images are here;

Dave,
Nice work on the "average stuff". I also had a running collection of les than perfect material and I went as far so as to make a web page dedicated to it. Nevertheless, your examples are still nice work.
A big thanks for the reference to the overlib command. I did not know about it until hitting the above page ... and I really like it. So much so that I will implement it within one or two webpages of my own.

A bit or nearly useless information for you!
Your 'unknown' near NGC772 is PGC1577957
leda.univ-lyon1.fr/ledacat.cgi?PGC1577957&ob=ra
If you use aladin and bring up the POSSII image of ngc772 then you can see the object. Then load the HYPERLEDA/PGC catalogue overlay to identify.

Not useless at all, in fact quite the opposite. I wasn;t aware of the hyperleda overlay. Very useful indeed. Thanks AL.
