Practice for the lunar eclipse, moon shots was created by dave_lillis
Hi,
I spent a few hours tonight getting the scope and cameras ready for the eclipse tomorrow night, I have the Canon on the 12" scope with the flip-mirror, so I can alternate between looking and taking pics.
After some experimenting with the Lumicon GEG and reducer lens, I now have the scope working at F4, so I just about get the entire moon in the field of view of the canon with the 12".
I also have a 4" refractor piggybacked which is wide field and shows alot of sky around the moon.
I took ten pics at full resolution of the canon through the 12" and stacked in registax. This image was originally 3072x2048, but I had to crop out as much black background as possible and make the resultant image 1024x1024, otherwise flick would have done it for me instead and I would have ended up with a smaller moon, so this is only half of its original size.

Anyway lets keep hoping that the weather holds, all I'll have to do is open the dome and turn the scope power on.

I think you've picked up something from the Scouts last week.....
BE PREPARED!
Wether looks hit and miss....
I was planning to head to West coast for the night....
Best of luck to you anyway...

Good luck tonight with the eclipse Frank, did you bring a camera, or is the deck chair your only piece of gear?
I've just realised I've past the 4000 post mark, watch out Seanie !
The moon was great last night, going on the processing time in the above image, I could very well be busy for the next 2 weeks

You're trying desperately to catch up Dave?
By the way, you didn't mention the exposure time of your image above. Nice shot, not too saturated with brightness either!

Nicely exposed image Dave. Not overly sharpened either.

Dave that is a damn impressive image! Well done. Love the scale. Seeing an image at full scale like that shows the author has done a good job.
