Hyperstar-ing your meade 14"

Hi,
Looks like the hyperstar system is not just for the celestron 14, there is a version now out that works with the Meade 14"

I'd go for this if I had the 14" .
Looks like it works well despite the light pollution.

This gives you a F2 system, very nice for widefield images under a dark sky.

V. expensive though. Also needs a lightweight camera so you don't warp/crack the corrector plate.

Yea, cracking the plate would always be on my mind, imagine bumping off the camera during the night :shock:
A pity they don't do one for the 12".

It's a nice image to be sure, but it exhibits >hideous< diffraction effects on the brighter objects. It also seems to be highly under-corrected in the blue-violet region. Another aberation that is clearly visible in the stars is astigmatism - caused, I expect, by the weight of the lens/camera assembly hanging out of the corrector plate and distorting it across its diameter.

Not bad for a 19min exposure... but at a big cost!

Oh, and the camera wire also introduces two diffraction spikes into the star images.

But apart from all those problems, it still manages to produce some pretty sexy images - on the website!
