Comet Lovejoy was created by phoenix
This was a stack of 50 x 10 second images binned at 6x6 with the H16. There is just a hint of a tail in the image. Still not used to imaging and processing comets.

That's pretty neat Nieran.
How did you find autoguiding the comet like? Any more different than guiding a star or does the fuzziness of the nucleus make it difficult??

I increased the exposure for guiding and binned the guide camera at 4x4 but still very difficult since this is at about mag 9.4 especially with the lighter skies now.

Lovely image Kieran. Certainly is a different matter guiding on comets. A decent amount of tail is visible. Well done. This was a tricky one and you worked it well!

Excellent shot Kieran - as you say, guiding on that object in a lightening sky can't have been at all easy. Also, this comet is a lot fainter than it was - I got a widefield shot when it was up around mag 8 but it's down to 9.5 or so now and barely shows up on my DSLR.

Clear skies,

Paul.

Nice image Kieran, you cough the essence of what most comets look like.
