Using old lenses on Canon DSLR was created by JohnONeill
Hi,

Has anybody got experience of using old "film" lenses (i.e Nikon, Olympus and Tamron (Adaptall II) ) on the canon 350D. Particularly
with regard to adapters.

I believe there was a EOS - Adaptall II adapter, but its hard to obtain now.

One would not need the autofocus, autoexposure for astronomy.

John,

Unfortunately we are out of luck as far as using Canon FD series lenses on the EOS bodies. This upset MANY people who had impressive collections of the FD series and who slowly had to restock for the EOS line. In part, it also explains why prices for these older lenses have plummetted ... huge supply being dumped onto the market.

It is my understanding that the (old) Nikon lenses are still compatible with the newer generation Nikon bodies including the digital version of these new bodies.

Apparently the Nikor 200mm/f2.8 is a GREAT lens to have and is available for a very reasonable price.

Hi,

There are some adapters but you'll need to google for the specific lens you have.

The only decent pre-digital lenses I had were minolta, which simply cannot reach focus on a 350D so no adapter will work.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.

The following would be required
1. "Olympus --> CanonEOS adapter" for I could use Olympus Lens
2. "Nikon --> Canon EOS adapter" so I could use Nikon Lens
3. As there is no readily available Tamron Adaptall --> Canon EOS, I have read that two adapters work: "Tamron II Adaptall for Nikon" (which I have) and "Nikon --> Canon EOS adapter.

Has anybody successfully used these?

For the sake of accuracy, I should have stated the Nikor 180mm/f2.8. Bargains do exist but it is highly sought-after and prices can get obscene.
