Quick n Dirty Dumbell was created by TrevorDurity
Hey all,

Here's a quick processing of M27 from last night. First time I've seen the sky since May. Unfortunately I only got 30 minutes of subframes before the clouds came in, but since it's a bright object it's still acceptable.

150 sec subframes used - I noticed some blooming when going over 200.

Well done Trevor. You must be pleased with that. The colour definition looks good as does the guiding. On the constructive side, I guess it could do with a bit longer exposure lenght or perhaps a lot more of those 150 seconds.

Congrats.

Thanks Dave. Yeah, it definitely needs longer subframes. I can usually get 3-5 minutes without the sky background getting too bad so I'll try this on the next clear night. I used shorter frames to eliminate blooming but silly me, I should have remembered it's not difficult to remove that in the processing stage anyhow

It's been so long since I looked at m27 that I forgot how bright it is. Easily visible through my 66mm from Salthill!!!

Looking good. As said, longer exposures and more of them will do wonders. Certainly on the right track!

Trevor don't let an objectionable sky background bother you too much. You will be amazed at just how well digital development will remove that. It'd tempting to look at the subframes in isolation and base your plan on how they look. However when stacked and DDP'd they look an awful lot better. I suggest go for 5 mins and be damned with the sky background. I think you'll be amazed at the result.
