Baeder LRGB Filters was created by bertthebudgie
Hi

Does anyone know if the baeder lrgb filters block infrared and uv light or do you need a seperate ir/uv blocking filter.

Thanks

Hi Deeee Beeeee

Unfortunately not. But if your using them for imaging then take an L channel using the IR/UV filter then a set of RGBs this applies to DSOs and planetary stuff. If you're thinking of filters Iwould strongly reccomend the Astronomik LRGB set. Yes they are a bit (astronomikally) pricey but you'll probably end up getting them any way after using the Baaders and they have a built in uv/ir block. Thats what happened me anyway.

Hi deeegeeee2

I got the baeders as part of thre deal with the camera. I have an ir block filter which i can use over the lrgb filters which will add a bit of complexity again but those be the breaks.

Dave,

Keep an eye on Astromart since many people are unloading their SBIG filter sets (1.25") which are IR-blocking and parfocal due to upgrades to 2" filters for their STL11000.

I have seen these sets for as low as $100 (ie. 75 euro) for a complete set (Clear and LRGB).

As for the Baader set, I am surprised at their rationale. If possible, it is best to avoid using doubly stacked filters (UV-IR/Cut + RGB filter) since the extra glass may impact the signal passing through.

Hi Anthony

I noted on my last attempt at LRGB the luminance looked pretty good with the stars relatively small pinpoints. This used the supplied ir/uv filter that came with the set. With the RGB images, the stars appeared to be somewhat bloated because it appears that the rgb filteres do not block out the IR/UV.

So if I bin at say 2x2 this should make the chip more sensitive by x4 times. The fact that is is going through a coloured filter will reduce it by only 1/3 times.

Therefore if I use the same exposure for each image will this negate any loss in the signal I might get stacking the ir/uv over the rgb filters with some to spare?

DeeBee,

For proper LRGB imaging you do need real interference filters, like the astronomik ones, astrodon or 'schuler' (sp?) are other brands. You will never be happy using coloured glass filters. However they will get you used to the procedures necessary.

My suggestion is forget about colour imaging until you get the basics of monochrome imaging sorted. You'll be better off in the long run.
