Great Image,

Just so I can sound knowledgeable, what is 1x1 binning? :D

Well done carl, I really hadn;t noticed the green tinge to the original image because my monitor at work is rubbish. This looks much better. Great image mate.

Michael:

Binning is a way to increase the brightness of an object in an image by adding adjacent pixels together to make a brighter pixel. In 2x2 binning 4 pixels are added together to produce an image which is 1/4 the resolution but twice as bright. A 2x2 binned shot of 30 seconds is as bright as a 1x1 binned shot of 60 seconds but has 1/4 of the pixels since four pixels are combined into one. So when Carl says 1x1 binning he really means that the image is not 'binned' at all.

What binning equates to is making the pixels on your ccd chip bigger but of course the down side is there is less of these 'bigger' pixels.

Binning is often used to get colour data in less time than unbinned shots. However I have never found this to be useful.

A fine image Carl, the background is definitely darker, the nebula looks like a 3D glowing sphere of gas in space. :) nice one.

I have looked at many images here, in fact i spend many hours of my working day here, browsing. Although many of the photos are fantastic, i really like this. It doesnt look like a flat photo, you get a real feel of depth and a 3 dimensional feeling. you can actually see distance between the stars. I cant give you techy talk on why this is or if its better or worse, but i like it a lot.
