M33 .... semi-presentable result was created by ayiomamitis
Alright folks (especially Dave Grennan),

Here is your chance to ROTFL .... I picked up five hours of total exposure data on the large and stunning face-on galaxy M33 in Triangulum last night but ..... I really messed up the flats for one reason or another.

The result without the flats is relatively better than the result with the flats ... however, there are serious problems throughout.

As much as I hate to display poor results, here is one which I hope will be instructive: www.perseus.gr/Astro-DSO-NGC-0598.htm

That's a great image! It has picked up a number of clear nebulae in another galaxy!

These um, "serious problems"..... I'm struggling to see them, that is one excellent image of M33.

At first glance at the image I thought you were taking the P. But now I can see what you mean about the flats which gave the NW-SE colour cast problems but absolutely stunning detail in it. I spent ages trying to image this one for about three months before I got one which was carp compared to yours.

Aww I'm touched. All is forgiven. Feeeeel da lurve.

Anyway, thats still a decent image Anthony. I see how you had problems with the gradients. I'd say I've tried M33 about 5 times now and always something goes wrong.

You did manage some lovely detail in there so I wouldn't be too disappointed.

I'm also having a problem with flats for some reason, I'm seeing the shape of the secondary mirror and spider vanes in the flats as a darker area. This of course, is resulting in those areas being brightened on the final image. I ruled out stray light. Any idea why this might be?

Anyway enough of the nicey nicey. Stop inflicting this rubbish on us. Go sell that tasco and webcam combo you're using and buy more knitting needles. My poor eyes can't take it anymore

<war back on>

Not a bad image Anthony, there are several good NGC H-alpha star forming regions in there,
