The Moon 16:30-17:00 17/12/07 was created by Calibos
3 images taken with a Nikon D500 @ ISO 1600 40 sec exp..........

Only kidding!!

Had the scope out of the shed to put some shelving in and around 4:30pm I looked up and saw the moon. Wasn't even thinking of Astronomy as it was still bright. Quickly set up the scope and got my first look at the moon in any telescope never mind this one.

I was blown away! Incredible detail. I headed inside to get something and when I came back out my brother was there with his Nokia N95 camera phone holding it up to the Hyperion Lense. I raised my eyes to heaven and told him he was wasting his time. Just then I saw the view screen and the FOV of the scope appeared very briefly on the view screen as he tried to align the phone. Holy ****! This might be a lost cause after all. I quickly worked out that the bros problem lining the phone up was that the rubber eyeguard was holding the camera back too far from the lense. I took the phone off of him, rolled back the lense rubber and after a few seconds got the phone camera lense into what I have subsequently discovered is called 'Prime Focus'. Clicked the button, camera did some auto focusing and hey presto. the pics above!

So......N95 Phone held up to the eyepiece ....eh thats it!

Hi Calibos,

first up, pretty good (first?) attempts there. I think you should shrink them in size. It would decrease the amount of visual blurriness about them, make them appear more sharp.

Second, I suggest you shrink them anyway for the benefit of dial-up users! ;)

Those are seriously impressive shots for a camera phone! Well done!

Phil.

PS - Prime Focus is the point (actually a curved plane!) where the telescope forms an image inside the focuser draw tube without an eyepiece in it. The eyepiece is used to magnify and examine the prime focus. If you can rack your focuser in far enough then you should be able to see a clear, sharp image using just your eye or a camera. This is what is known as imaging at prime focus.

How can I edit my post to replace the links with smaller versions?

Thanks for clarifying that Philip. So basically what I was doing then was lining the camera lense up to the correct eye relief point for this lense??
