An eskimo to tells me its cold out......

First image of 2008!!! Conditions wernt great with intermittant cloud coming and going. But I was just desperate for the practice so I just cranked up the ccd out of shear pig iron.

I used a package caled Nebulosity to stack all the subs this time. About 20 x 45 secs in the end as DSS refused to stack due to their not being sufficient stars in the subs. I am thinking that this may be the package to use for me as if you are using a small size chip and are limited to short exposures in alt az you are likely to have a lot of subs with few bright stars.

It is less automatic then DSS but you have more control over the picking of the stars, (you only need to find two) and stacking. A bit more tedious but it works

Had to have another go at the eskimo. The difference tonight was that I used the focal reducer. This helped enormously as it reduced the length of the subs I needed to take and made errors in the tracking less critical. DSS seemed to work out just fine this time.

Had another go at further processessing of the eskimo. I also went through each image manually and got rid of all the bad runty frames. Then, after adjusting the levels and ddp in Nebulosity and making use of edge enhancement function, I think I have got more of the eskimo's Parka.
