Apogee - Perigee

Dear Friends,

I came close to missing my two-day window in completing a longterm project due to the weather but all is well that ends well. To this end, I kindly direct you to www.perseus.gr/Astro-Lunar-Scenes-Apo-Perigee.htm .

Had the weather not cooperated, not only would this have meant an end to the current effort but next year is out of the question due to the maximum perigee moon occurring a few hours before new moon.

Hi Michael,

I did some number crunching during the summer and I was getting something of the order of 14%. However, it is something else when you see the actual results and I was very pleasantly surprised.

My hair stands on end when I think of how close I came to losing this project due to the weather. I had an indication of possible problems during all of December, for ten-day forecasts consistenly indicated clouds and rain. It was only 3-4 days prior to my window of opportunity that things started to show some hope ... and I was delighted when the first part of the window came and the transparency was exceptional. The irony is that the weather fell apart only a few hours thereafter and we are now back clouds and rain.

The next key date is January 2/2005 for another project. Otherwise, I am toast with this longterm project as well.

Astrophotography can be so much fun.
