Scutum Starcloud was created by Keith g
Hello all, it's been a while what with the poor weather we've had for so long. you might like to look at the Scutum starcloud region of the summer milkyway taken on October 6th under humid skies before the clouds pushed in once again. I got 20 three minute exposures at ISO 800 and 6 dark frames stacked toghether to produce this beautiful area of the sky. I used a canon ef L lens at 70mm f5.
At left is the starcloud itself with countless stars forming only a small part of an inner arm of our home galaxy, at right there are far less stars thanks to the thick layers of galactic dust blocking our view of what lies beyond. Easily seen is the starcluster M11, also a few other clusters are visible, namely M26. There are also many Barnard dark nebulae here.
I hope to get a more detailed shot, maybe more exposure time??? but I guess I'll have to wait until next year now.
C&C welcome...

Splendid image Keith!
It's takem me a few minutes to identify a lot of specific nebulae.
I find it a very useful image to see nebulae that I would only normally image close up due to using a small field of view.
Are there any photo albums that show a wide FOV of the sky like what your images? I have an old copy of Menzel's book, but they are small fields in black and white.
Anyway well done, keep it up !
