My latest attempt at M42 was created by bertthebudgie
Hi everyone.

James Kelly and I ventured out to our site just below the sugar loaf and viewed loads of galaxies planetaries etc under some very dark clear skies.

I managed to bag this image of M42.

Never got a chance to check the forums yesterday and resigned my self to a very brief first light in my tiny back yard with only the zenith viewable. Had I seen your post in 'Announcements' David, I would have been up to the sugarloaf like a shot!! Note to self, "Check the forums every day whether or not you think there is much posting activity on the site" :D

Nice colour there Dave. It does look like the longer sequence if short exposures has sorted the tracking issues. If there is perhaps one small thing that could have made that image heaps better would be tighter focus. It can be necessary to spend maybe up to 15 minutes to get the focus as tight as the seeing will aloow, but its time well spent. I assume you use the Artemis capture program? USe the focus aid in there and get those numbers as small as possible.

Thanks for the advice advise DG.

I am using the artimis capture programe and the focus aid in it. The three second download time for each image means that every time you make an adjustment you have to wait some time for the result to appear on screen.

But there is always next time :)

DB in bad seeing you may need as much as 5" to allow the effects of the seeing average out. But you do need to persist with it.
