The Heart Nebula, IC 1805 was created by wellbuttie
I need more data to do this justice, being trying to target this object during the weekend however, my plans were influenced by Clouds arriving on both nights at about 10.30. I decided to process the images I had managed to capture.... Sky Glow was pretty bad on both nights too..

The Heart Nebula, IC 1805, lies some 7500 light years away from Earth and is located in the Perseus arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. This is an emission nebula showing glowing gas and darker dust lanes. The very brightest part of this nebula (the knot at the bottom right) is separately classified as NGC 896, because it was the first part of this nebula to be discovered.

The nebula's intense red output and its configuration are driven by the radiation emanating from a small group of stars near the nebula's centre, known as Melotte 15.

Hi Mate,

That is a very good result, focus and processing are great:rock:. I really like the image size. Very good work Steve,

Ps,
If it's not the clouds it's the moon. I have loads of images here just looking for some colour. Tonight is looking Ok but there is a bright moon also. So it looks like more H alpha work a well could be worse:whistle:.

Many thanks Carl,

I was hoping to be able to get over 6 hours of data for this object, over the two nights, but the clouds as you say had other ideas.

Just ordered a 12nm HA Filter for the 350d, so I hope that I will get the opportunity, to get some proper luminance data for this object.

Hi Steve,

That's the way to do it make a project out of everything you image. I use the 50mm 6nm H Alpha great for light pollution I think it cost around 500 Euro for that one filter. But the results are great do you remember this image taken just a few degrees away from a full Moon. This is the kind of results you get with a good H Alpha filter

www.webtreatz.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=19&fullsize=1

A filter like the 12nm or 6nm will be great. All the detail will come from your luminance and then just add the colour to it. Come to think of it if your sky glow is very very bad you might want to consider the 6nm Have a chat with Ian or who ever you are buying it from they won't put you wrong

Very nice image Steve.
Can I ask where you got your camera modded and how much it cost?

cheers

Many thanks for the encouragement lads,

Carl, brilliant image!! I am looking forward to experimenting with the HA filter. I decided to go for the 12nm HA filter (over the 6nm)due to the 350D not being as sensitive as dedicated CCD cameras. Hopefully it will help bring out a bit more detail in some of my images.

John, I got the modded camera for about 300 euro, it was on sale on ebay, and simply has the IR Filter removed. I also use it for Infra Red day time imaging.

I notice, however, that my camera lenses wont focus at infinity when they are wide open, so I need to stop them down a bit. Not a problem when using the telescopes though. It certainly makes a big difference when compared to my "normal" 350D, for imaging the "faint fuzzies"
