yes Sean but youd expect that level of activity noramlly in Ha. After a brief period of activity the Sun seems to have gone back to sleep:(

Ten it's something I need to catch up on. Most solar shots I recall seeing did not have so much spiking around the edge like this. I think this makes it look more dynamic.

Theyre called spicules and are visible only in the chromosphere (not in the white light images of the photoshpere). They are the edge on view of the mottling on the solar surface. Think of them as large columns of plasma that rise to the surface, cool and then fall again. (my earlier prom image shows them up close)

It does indeed seem Sol is gone back to sleep...
but I think she's in for a rude awakening...
I've a feling in my bones that this year is gonna be
very rainy (sorry people just MTC) - due to ash clouds and low sun activity..
If Sol picked up I'm sure we would be in for a bit better weather.
