Finally...... was created by johnomahony
The weather has finally broken and the first weekend of clear skies is here. Here are some first draft shots taken from Mornington, Victoria, last night
Trifid and Lagoon nebulae

The Tarantula nebula in the Great Magellenic Cloud
farm5.static.flickr.com/4111/5045782606_890b4d7ac0_b.jpg
The observing site is fairly light polluted so a CLS filer was needed. These are only 30-40 minutes of exposure. Megrez 72 and Canon 450D on the back of the CGE mount.
The new CGE firmware seems to work OK and the new all star alignment allows a polar alignment routine in the southern hemisphere which is good enough for 3-5 minutes unguided.

Thanks Guys
I have thought about removing the IR filter but I am thinking about getting a dedicated imager at some stage when my finances improve a bit.
For the past few months Melbourne's weather has been similar to Ireland so its hard to get homesick :silly:
