Wide Field Photo was created by wbean
We got a nice break in the clouds the other night and I took this photograph with my new DSLR

As you can see the milky way is just visible and I even caught a satellite or the ISS in it. Not sure which it is, maybe someone can tell. I was looking about south-south-west at about 19:30 on Friday last in the south of Ireland. I'm guessing It's probably a satellite based on the direction it's travelling in which was more or less north to south.

Wonderful image wbean, where did you get the clear sky from? Helps me remember what the sky used to look like. :-)

Lovely clear skies there, are you looking out over the sea?

I was out last night at Glencree to the south of Dublin for some wide field shots, but I got a lot of pollution from Dublin.

Saying that, in one shot I got M31 in the image, the wind was high and it really affected the camera, got a lot of shaky stars.

Can you give some details? Lens, exposure, aperture, etc.

Paul

Thanks guys,
I took this at my house in west Cork where we really do get some amazing night skies. There's actually a lot of light spilling onto the foreground trees from the house. Here are the image details:

Lens: 20mm f2.8
ISO: 1600
Exposure: 15sec

Also for those who might be interested, the satellite in the photograph might be called either Cosmos 1812 or Cosmos 1500.
