Hi there folks
A beautiful night last evening, at long last. I brought along the camera and took some fixed tripod images.
Hope you like them.
Orion/Taurus
Orion's Sword
Gemini/Auriga
Canis Major
This was my first serious attempt at such imaging and I am pleased with the results. The amount of detail that can be captured is amazing, these were 30 second shots, but lots of deep-sky objects were captured, in the Gemini/Auriga image there are a number of Messier objects.
Of all the images I really liked the last one the most, I removed some ugly telegraph poles with Photoshop, I like the composition of the shot.
Thanks for looking
Paul

Wow.Great job! They looked great thru the small screen on the camera but now you can see all the detail you captured.Personally the first image looks the best.Like the different colors of the stars.

It really pulled the colour out of Betelguese and Aldebaran. Such a nice contrast with the other blue/white stars.
While the last photo is aesthetically pleasing its a shame about the actual cause of the sky hue. Is that the Roundwood lightdome?

Very nice Paul, I like the first one particularly because of the wide field, the contrasts in the star colours, and the "depth". What camera and lens were you using?
I think the free programme 'Iris' can deal with light pollution gradients; you might consider playing with it.
I'm really disappointed that I missed last night's session, hopefully there will be another opportunity soon.

Many thanks guys.
Mike, I'm using a Canon 30D with a 17-85mm lens.
I was going to insert the 70-200mm L lens, thank God I didn't as the wind blew the camera over, luckily there was no damage, just some cosmetic marks to the body.
The next time, if the wind is not a factor, I will insert this lens and try for some close ups of objects such as M42 and M45.
Do you have a link Mike?
