Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

Out of interest, how did you decide on the numbers of cal frames (darks and flats)? And how do you take your flats? And how long did the processing take you?
The image itself is very good indeed. It just shows how the DSLR cameras are able to admirably compete with CCD's.

Hi Dave
I take my flats using an EL panel, or I use the sky (if it's clear), I have also used an illuminated blank wall before as well, and try and aim in Nebulosity to have the peaks about 1/3 across the histogram by adjusting the exposure times, I would use the AV FLat mechanism in BackyardEOS but that would mean opening up the cooler box and switching the dial to AV which I do not really want to do
The number of darks is dependent on wether the camera is cooled or not, with the cooled camera since the standard deviation doesn't really change betweeen the darks, I result in only having to do around 19, before I got into cooling the camera I used to have to take at least 45 darks.
The number of flats I typically go for 45+ because they take no time at all to grab (the longest part is the downloading of the image fromt he camera
