That's very interesting Dave.
I've converted my toucam to raw...just need to get some clear skies!

Dave,
I presumed they were processed in a very similar way.
Which webcam were they taken through,
I have 2 toucam pros, I'm going to modify the second one for raw mode.
The first one, I have other plans for.
Definitely more detail to be seen in the raw file.
I havent had a chance at all to try any raw modes but,
I'm trying to remember did I read somewhere that if you use raw mode, you get only black/white images, so you have to use a colour wheel to get a colour image. Is this right or wrong Dave ?? (I have a feeling its wrong)...

There are different types of RAW depending on the chip.
The Toucam Pro can do colour RAW

Hi Dave
Yeah both were processed similarly. TUC Raw is color but the image must be converted to color. astrosnap will give you real time conversion so that the on screen live image is in color if youre using other programs you'll get a bw image that wil have to be converted at a later stage......don't forget Regi3 will convert for you.
I tried this experiment because i hear guys like Martin Moberly and Damien Peach reccomending 10fps to get as many frames as possible. The max possible is 5fps with raw but you get just as good image.

Here's the raw image a bit larger. I'm using the 7315 focuser now and have recently got a maintenance done on the scope by Phillip Lardner of SDAS. Tracking much better now and even with the scope not collimated (a rush job as I'm building a new observatory so have to set everything up) the detail of the disc is musch better. Notice the colors?? I've never got anything like that before, there is a IR/UV filter in place but I dont think its that.
