Nice few minuted with binos was created by michaeloconnell
Just spent a few minutes outside with the binos. Very clear night.
Managed to see M57 through the binos for the first time. M27 and M11 were also very easy to spot. M33 was a little more challanging but still easy.
There really is nothing like a simple pair is binos, is there. You can take in soooo much of the sky in such a short space of time and floating along the Milky Way is very hard to beat.

Where you using a OIII filter? I picked out M29 in Cygnus but could not see M27 in Vulpecula or M57 in Lyra. M57 I think I saw it in Kerry recently as there was somthing where it is suposed to be that I could not focus in and resolve for sure. 10X50 Carl Zeiss Binoculars. I could see the milky way in Bray last night but it was a shadow of its deep dark Kerry self.

Dave,
I was using a pair of Bresser wide-angle 10x50s which I have to say I find very good. I find them a bit better than my pair of Lidl ones to be honest.

Deirdre,
Using a pair of OIII filters would, from what I understand, be fairly expensive as they cost about 150-200 yoyos each, unless there are ones out there specially for binos. If you come across ones for binos, I'd be interested to hear about them. Some of the Apogee binos now come with filters which can slide in and out which seems a clever idea. Not sure how good they would be in practice or how good the optical quality would be. Adding filters like that will improve the contrast of nebulae but will reduce the apparent brightness of the stars and may change their apparent colour also. Something to bear in mind. I use a UHC filter on my scope and I find it good. Don't know how it would work at such a low aperture as you get with binos.
Those are a great pair of binos you have there. I once got a chance to use a pair of Carl Zeiss 10x50s on the moon and the view was superb. Very sharp with zero chromatic aberration. Very impressive.
