help with Identifying a nebula in Orion was created by ftodonoghue
Hi Folks.
Was out observing in kerry tonight with Michael Scully. We were looking at clusters and nebulae in the region around M35 when mike stumbled on to a nebulous region which I have highlighted below. this was easily seen in 10X50's and the scope and was quite extensive(perhaps 1/3 degree in diameter from what I remember). I cannot find anything that matches its size in cartes du ciel or my charts and cannot figure out what it is. anyone have any ideas/
There are two nebulae in the region, Ced 62 and NGC2163, both of which are v small at around 2-3 arc minutes. and some believe are the same object.
Anyone have any ideas what we were looking at. or can anyone point me in the direction of photographic plates of this region. Thanks in advance

Trevor - TheSky shows NGC2163 in that location. There seems to be a mark within your hihlighted boundary on the graphic you posted.
There is also another nebulae noted about 20 minutes away called SAC Ced 62 (from the Saguaro astronomy Club Database).

I would say that it is LBN858 and IC2162.

So many different objects in the one tiny area of sky!
I wonder what the 'official' designation would be? The NGC number?
