Lots of mist last night where I am and tonight is no better. Had a go at M44 since a nebula was out of the question. The image had halos around the stars so I ran Noel Carboni's Diffraction spikes around fat stars which reduced the halos. Still prefer real spikes though since they have the rainbow effect.

Well i really like it. I always loved the way the orange stars float amongst all the white ones.
Interesting area at the centre of image towards the bottom.....looks like two identical double stars.

Kieran,
That's a wonderful rich colourful image. What camera and optics did you use? What exposures times, etc.

Kieran,
Nice work ... and this is from someone who likes imaging open clusters!
Oh yeah, I also like and prefer the rainbow effect you describe.
