Does anyone happen to know where he was born or where he worked? Ideally I'm looking for street locations or a map reference.

I believe the Armagh 15", the Markree 13", and the Dunsink 12" were all built in Dublin. I don't know when he moved there -- the only dates I have are 1835 for the Armagh 15", and 1868 for his retirement (still in Dublin).
His son (Howard) built the Armagh 10" in 1885. He was still based in Dublin at that time.
There's a bunch of good stuff at the Armagh Observatory web site: star.arm.ac.uk/history.html .

there is a book "victorian telescope makers, the lives and letters of thomas and howard grubb" by I.S. Glass ISBN 0-7503-0454-5 . this is basically about their lives and their work plus a list of publications about them.

I was not aware of that but I'll do some investigating next week.
