Well my father read the universe a biography and said it was very good! :D

I guess the real question would be what the quality is like. I've never been brave enough to buy one .... I'd rather someone else on the boards did first :)

The BBC did a series a while back with Sam Neill. I forget the name of the series but it was excellent. It covered all kinds of astronomical stuff. The graphics were excellent and the explanations superb.

Try the BBC website - they have listings of DVD's - type in astronomy into their search engine and you should find it.

I reviewed John Gribbin's book for RTE. It was was very good once you got through the first 3 or 4 chapters. I think the DVD you mention is really just John Gribbin giving a lecture about the main points in the book.

I would imagine the Chris Lintott DVD is about the same.

Cheers

My brother has the Sam Neill series and its amazing, the episodes and graphics are excellent and he is a great presenter. I'd go for that given the choice.
BTW, shop around on the web and get a good price.

Folks, I think what Neil is referring to is the Videos AI sell of their big lectures rather than generic Astronomy videos.
