posting pics

I have a few photo's of DAS' 100 Hours' events which I'd like to post but tried and nothing happened. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to do it (I have the photo's in a file on my pc)

Hi Bernie

You need to upload your images to Flickr first of all.

Then you need to choose the size you want your image to be on the IFAS forum , small, medium,large.
Then you need to grab the url just like the sample above and paste it into your message box like this one.

Then for each url you need to add [bracket img close bracket] just in front of the http:
and you need to add [bracket forward slash img close bracket] just at the end of jpg

The http:/ / and the brackets are not visible in the sample above just imaging they are there.

This is how ye do it , a bit tiresome but the only way it seems.

I use imageshack hosting.

I first resize the photos in Paint.net. One could use any photo or image editing software. Paint.net is free. I usually maintain the aspect ratio of the pics and select 640 pixels image width. This means for most viewers the image won't be wider than their forum screen and you wont get horizontal scrollbars that need to be grabbed with the mouse and scrolled to see the whole width of the image. Doesn't matter what height the image is because one has to scroll ones screen up/down anyway and thats intuitive with the mouse scroll wheel.

I then save the image as a .jpg and adjust the image compression till the image is less than 100kb. I aim for around 50-80kb generally unless the image starts looking too compressed at that size.

I then go to www.imageshack.us/





Then click the Img boardcode button. Paste the imageshack link between the Img tags and delete out the size atribute in the first boardcode image tag otherwise the forum resizes the image to only 150 pixels wide.

[Edit] Forgot to mention. I also paste the links into a notepad text file that I keep in the image folder in case I want to post the image again elsewhere. Imageshack is certainly handy for once off posting of pics but I think I myself will investigate Flickr and start creating some albums.

Thanks for that. I already have a flickr account so am just uploading pics to that now and will try & post them here in the morning (off to airport now to collect my 10 yr old astronomy mad nephew).
