Great full moon tonight! was created by dave_lillis
Hi,
If you have a good southern horison, go out and have a look at the full moon rising in the south east, it has that "big" effect and has a deep orange colour to it. :)

I just noticed it about 20 minutes ago Dave, I personally have never seen it so low, only about 4 degrees up at best, a lovely sight.

This is where the moon is at the point of it's lowest altitude on the ecliptic in Sagittarius at about -23 degrees, but also coincinding with it tonight is a 'wobble' in the moons orbit allowing it to venture above or below the ecliptic by some 5 degrees at most, seems tonight it's a low-low.

Cool sight!
Keith..

It was a great view last night. Especially since it is at one of its lowest points in its orbit. Makes a dramatic sight alright!

Yes, a very nice Moon . . . lots of detail visible even to the unaided eye.

Wait 'til you see this year's Harvest Moon though! Technically, the Full Moon of October 7th is the Harvest Moon as the Autumnal Equinox is September 23rd.

However, both the Full Moon of September 7th and October 7th coincide with the closest Full Moons of 2006 (that of Sept. 7th is slightly closer).

Coupled with the fact that the Moon's path closely mirrors that of the ecliptic this year + 5 degrees, then the Harvest Moon effect will be especially pronouced . . . in other words, it'll look huge!!!
