Moon Occultation of Pleiades Tuesday Sept.12

Don't forget, as the Moon rises tomorrow evening at about 9.20pm directly in the northeast, it will be already in the pleiades star cluster.

Although at 67% sunlit phase, it should be a nice sight !

I spotted this a few weeks ago when I was planning
some sessions on Stellarium.
The waining moon should give good contrast against the cluster.

I wonder is it possable to photograph the moon and cluster together?
Or would that overexpose the moon? .....

I just checked and the moon will be around 67% phase which is not very good. If you expose properly for the lunar disk, you will be lucky if you can capture one or two of the more prominent members of M45. Of course, we can both forget the well-known nebulosity if a one-shot capture-all image is pursued.

For me locally, the moon is way too close to the horizon which means I will rely on my friends here for a view of the event.

Indeed too much illuminated there for a workable shot I'd say..
Still, it might be interesting to see the outcome of a couple of seconds at a high ISO....
Obviously a huge ball of white but maybe a few of the brighter sisters might shine through....
Could make for a nice 'art' shot!

If all else fails...it should look great in binos.

Still, a nice challenge if the weather is on our side.
