Hi everyone.
I have just joined the group and find it really good.
I am just getting into Astronomy with a view to too taking pics of the planets etc.
I will be purchaseing a second (5 Mths) hand ETX125EC this week-end.
I have read many articles on this scope and it seems just what I am after.
I have a HP Photosmart Digital Camera which I will be useing and also 35MM Minolta. I checked scopetronix and they do lots of adaptors so I should be ok here.

Can anyone give me a little advice on this scope and what I will actually be able too see with it.? I will be purchaseing the Meade 30th Anniversary set of of eyepieces as well.

I will also be buying a TuCam etc etc....

Better sign off now,

Good Night everyone.

Hi Billy,
Welcome aboard!
Hope u have sussed out the scope fully and are satisfied that it is in good working order.
A 125mm (5 inch) scope will give you loads of fun observing the planets and deep sky obkects for years to come. With the GOTO it should be very useful and should be easy to link up a webcam to.
Best of luck with your new scope,

Michael

hi Billy,

welcome on board! I saw where you are hoping to get a TouCam Pro to do imaging and a good place to get an adapter so it will fit to the scope is through Chris Heapy who runs the UK Astro Ads website ( easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~chrish/aa-ads.htm ). His e-mail address is on the site too. I gave away my adapter last weekend :) but it was only about ten or fifteen pounds Sterling to buy. I never used it 'cause, well, I don't have a scope!!!

Welcome,
One of the guys (Conn Buckley) in the club (Shannonside in Limerick) has an ETX 90, and uses an adapter to attach his Minolta (35mm film) camera onto the back of it.
He got some great shots of the sun with it using a type 2 thousand oaks filter, during October/November when the Sun went abit mad.
see them at
www.geocities.com/shannonsideac/sun.htm

I called over to his place one one of the Sundays and attached the my Toucam onto the back of it and got some close ups of the Sunspots.
(I say all this because he isnt on the web to say it himself)

So the ETX is a fine scope for what you want tot do with it. He doesnt have any planetary images yet but he 's working on it, Its much more difficult with a film camera as getting the exposure and focus right is much more costly affair.
Let us know how you get on and what you think of the scope in general, I was considering getting an ETX125 reciently just for the sheer portability.
