Advantages of star software

Just wondering if there are any advantages to using software like Starry night pro if you have an Autostar telescope...
Would like to learn a bit more about the Software. Perhaps somebody can recommend some other software, is it worth having as a stand-alone product?

It is very good at driving my Meade LX200GPS. Very easy, convenient and ACCURATE.
You can download a trial versionfrom the net.

Starry night enthusiast 4.5 is Free on the cover of PC Pro Magazine so you get software worth £49.99 GBP for the price of the Mag which is €6 Well Worth it.....it's a nice product

the difference would be in the number of objects in the programs database. the enthusiast version has less objects than the pro version. saying that i have this version of pro for serveral years and it is very good. it is now up to version 5 and by the time you'd pay transport, you'd be a good way towards getting the full version from www.starrynight.com .

I use Starry Night pro version 3.2 and I find it very good. I know there's updated stuff out there but since I don't hook it up the scope, what it does suits me right now.

Another package I have used is red Shift - this is a good bit cheaper. I think I saw it for about £20 in the mags. I found it good but then I got stupid and bought SNP... Red Shift does a good job at a fraction of the price.

TheSky is also supposed to be the bees knees put I think its pricey.

Judging on some of the posts I've seen, the ETX70 won't easily fit to a laptop so control from one of these packages may cost a little more if you have to buy a special cable to attach to the PC.

Even if you don't use it to control the scope, a decent package will at least give you a tool to plan your evening's viewing and something else to do when its cloud
