Hi

As Bart as said we have been working lots of hours, trying to deliver a new website with more functionality that will both assist users and also help to promote clubs and their events.

We know we have issues to fix and we are committed to fixing them, but we need to spend the time fixing the big issues not the small nit-picky stuff.

If you would like to help us, in pushing forward, please consider contributing an article for the Articles section. We really need the content and this will be of great benefit to other astronomers.
The move to this new website is both assisting current users and helping new users discover the world of astronomy and we can achieve these goals with your assistance.

Darragh --

The articles section doesn't indicate what format to submit in. What's easiest for you guys? MHT? PDF? DOCX?

Cheers,
-- Jeff.

The site is now run on Joomla. If anyone wants to do up a new template then we'll consider installing it. Realistically though, best get used to things the way they are, I don't have the time to re-do the theme and I doubt Darragh does either.

Bugs we'll work on fixing, but we're just volunteers, we're not going to waste our time re-doing something that works.

This place is awfully low on volunteers when it comes to actually DOING things. Lots of ideas, but ask for help and you get silence.

Darragh has poured easily hundreds of hours into this. I haven't done nearly that much, but I don't have any more time to donate. Time for others to step up to the plate.

Bart.

I know nothing about web design, so I'm no help here.

I think I can safely say that despite the ominous tone in Bart's post :), we DO appreciate the feedback being given. The site will only become 100% useful when we get the bugs fixed. Patience is a virtue.

However, I would like to stress that some features are lost, or altered e.g. e-mail notifications, avatar displays, and some others, because we have implemented a new boards technology. Comparisons to the old site are not a great way to say to us "oh, I prefer this to that" etc. as a means of getting things done. This new site WILL OFFER MORE than the old site, and the joomla! based content offers more interactivity for IFAS members as can be seen already.

Please understand that the lack of volunteers does not mean we need web developers. It means we would like to see IFAS members use this new site as their heart desires. After all, this Version 2 is only created because the members asked for it.

So please, contribute an article, keep a blog of your club, let us see what you observed last night, and so on. That is the best way you can be supporting the endeavours of the Web Team (especially our workhorse, Darragh).

Thanks,

Seanie.

Addendum

*Clicking on "Announcement" in any particular forum to create a, um, announcement for that forum, comes up with a 'hacking attempt' error.
