Perseid(early watch) was created by markdowling
Hi All,
Well on Sunday night/Mon.morn I stayed up to see a quite a few meteors.
Only had a 200speed film(!) available so stuck in in my slr anyhow with my fisheye (180 degrees) lens. 2-3 minute unguided exposures.
Surprise surprise the developer gave me the negs back with no prints..all under exposed...but i stuck the negs in my scanner and low and behold one shot I just about salvaged...not good quality but if you see the trail near the Ploughs handle that'll show how bright some of them were.
The bottom of the photo is facing due North.

Gee Mark,
I don't know whether to say hard luck or well done! :?:
Meteor photography with slr film is always tricky. I once tried it with ISO1600 speed film - some of the 2 minute exposures were so grainy, I wasn't sure how many stars were actually captured! I tend to go for ISO400 minimum, 800 is best. And if you can get monochrome (not yet for me), even better.

Mark, go back and ask for them to be printed, back in the days when I used to use film, I always had to explain before and atferwards that they need to print the negatives. I'd make them do it, even if they were poor quality.

Yes the 'quality' of the operative in the shops is quite limited.
If its not holiday snaps presented, when you start talking astronomy to them they have a worried expression on their face and look as if they're going to call security.
I was thinking of trying 800 on Fri but weather may just dampen that.
I want to make an adapter of some sort so I can piggyback my camera on my scope. I have the Meade adapter but obviously with the fisheye I need the camera facing straight overhead. Another project for another night!
