I didn't see it myself Darren, maybe he will put the recording online at some point.

You don't have too much longer to catch it as it will disappear into southern skies around Dec 12th. And it's on a hyperbolic orbit so will never returnĀ

Clear skies,
Finbarr.

Hi,
I am glad you got to see Leonard C/2021 A1.

I estimated the magnitude as only mag 7.9 this morning (Dec 3rd 2021). Maybe it was the moderate transparency. It was nice near M3.

Anyway you can see my images at:

Those are lovely shots John. The comet looks quite healthy there but time will tell. Generally the estimates are suggesting it has now reached 7th magnitude but still quite a wide variation.

Another shot here, from this morning Dec 5th at 0332UT; 60 seconds with a 140mm DSLR lens. I'd estimate mag 6 with a 0.7 degree tail and at this rate it's definitely still on course to be a naked eye object later in the week.

There was a report today from Russia that the comet had outbursted to as bright as mag 2.6. I had a clear window this evening and, although I could clearly see mag 2.9 Albaldah (pi Sgr), I did not see the comet 6 degrees to the W of that star. We really only have 3 or 4 more nights to catch it from these latitudes; tomorrow it will be less than a degree from Albaldah, and on Saturday 5.5 degrees SE of Venus.

Clear skies,
Finbarr.
