Great catch Ronan,

Really nice images, you really picked up the colours well. I am so fed up of this weather. Lost count of how many displays we have missed already this year because of it. Great to see someone in the country managed to see it. Well done.

Ronan 'Aurora-Man' Newman!

Can I ask, how would you rate / describe it visually?

Last time was in February, a Kp 5 storm, in a force 8 gale, completely subdued compared to this,

Kp is a very dodgy indicator for Ireland. When the CME hit last night and during its strongest effect over Ireland there was a Kp index of 2!
Geomagnetism seems to be a bit of a black art and this comes from guys who are monitoring for years. A lot of the time its dependant on knowing that a CME has hit and then studying any local disturbances in the Earths magnetic field.
