Has any club obtained charitable status and if so gained any significant advantages? Cork Astronomy Club is considering this, the most pressing motivation being to avoid bank charges. Has any other club obtained charges-free banking without charitable status? Peter

I looked into it when I was president of the IAS but we never followed it up. The auditing requirements were quite strict at the time (you had to have certified accounts).
