Wonder how long it takes them to come up with a USB or PCMCIA card for your PC to directly control the scope wirelessly without the need for an autostar at all. Seems the next likley step.

Very nice,
I was wondering when that was coming out.
One less cable to get tangled!

Astronomers do it with the lights off.

I'm confused as to why you would want to operate your telescope from 100' away surely it would be cheaper to do it the current way by connecting with a cable to your laptop and using a wireless network from the main PC, I can understand the pleasures of having one less cable, but it seems a high price to pay for that!

True, but as CCD cameras start getting an OS and wireless card built in, or more likley the Meade will have an OS and drivers for CCD cameras webcams etc. Then you will have the wireless setup out of the box.
There is a way to go obviously, but I think thats where they want to go with this technology.
In the mean time, there will probably just be a lot of controllers left on the ground after star parties
