Observing on election night! was created by carlos_dfc
Well! - It's a nice clear night here in the North_East of England. I just put my 6" newt out to cool, and I'll be off out to observe in about 45mins or so.
The thing is - I live in Tony Blair's Sedgefield constituency, I'm actually in the same town as the leisure centre where the current PM is waiting for the results.
Today, the town centre has been crawling with media and security - and I've seen the police 'copter buzzing around several times today already.
So when I go out to observe - if the 'copter passes over & they spot me in the garden with a tube on a tripod - only about a mile from where the PM is - what's my chances of them 'buzzing' me?

LOL ... reminds me of a great story by Terry Mosley involving observing on a mountain overlooking Belfast during the troubles!!!

Saw the Police chopper 3 times - one pass was VERY close.
But either they never noticed me (most likely) - or they realised what I was doing.
A good night for me (in between the odd small patch of cloud) - I'm just a beginner, still working my way through the Messiers, and looking for a few of the brighter ngc's while I'm at it.
New to me last night:-
Perseus double cluster - beautiful!

ngc 457

M 27 - bigger & brighter than I expected
