Moonrise was created by dmcdona
Folks - if you go out in the next few hours, look to the South to see a very low full moon (an optical illusion makes it look much bigger than if it were overhead)
Just saw it rise over the South Dublin mountains - great view, bar the blummin' street lights...
Cheers

Just went down to dollymount strand (3 mins awy from me:). Just saw the most beautiful moonrise ever. At 23:18 a blood red Moon rose just a tad to the left of the Kish Lighthouse. As the full disk of the Moon rose above the horizon differential refraction caused it to contort into some strange shapes. Mostly elliptical but sometimes square and sometimes it looked like a hugh bite had been taken out of the Moon. It actually looked like a huge pumpkin. As it rose a couple of arcminutes above the horizon it passed directly over the lighthouse. Stunning beyond words!!
Well we can forget seeing that again for another 200 years because thats the likely correlation between the Moon being thus placed and ut being clear right down to the horizon from Dublin Bay!!

Just went our for a little stroll here in Maynooth and the Moon really is abnormally low considering it rose over an hour ago!
