Who ya gonna call ???

Hi All,
I was just wondering would anyone know who to ring/email if you thought you discovered a comet or supernova, just to make it officially yours, not that I've discovered anything, you can always dream :lol:

The CBAT is the place to be be sending a report. Dan Green would be handilng your report......is there something you should be sharing with us?

That was an interesting question Dave L. My question would be; How do you look for comets and Supernava? With my illussions of grandeur, I'm bound to find one if I knew how to look :lol:

Dave - I think there's a central 'clearing house' for all reports of objects - asteroids, comets etc. I'm sure I saw some stuff on the web. There is definately an organisation for 'minor planets' and you have to submit your form in a specified format etc etc.

As far as naming goes, they choose. You can suggest but the final call is theirs. And it usually takes 10 years or so. As for 'ownership', of course you never own it. I'm sure that whenever McDonald 458 is mentioned, you'll get your name thrown is as the discoverer
