I want to get one. My question is should I get a red one or a green one?

And does anyone know who sells them?

5mW Green. A visible red one would need a lot more power and be more expensive. Red ones are just for collimating and putting a red dot on things. Green shows the 'line'

I got mine from betapointer.com, though Eugene had some deal with some people to get them imported.

Does this one look alright? It's a bit cheaper than betapointer.com.

Or this one?

hi Steve,

that version you got looks almost the same as the betapointer.com one . . . happy star pointing with it! It's a real neat educational tool for showing the sky to people.

what we do as well is if someone knows where a deep sky object is they can point to the general region of the sky and someone else can then home in on the spot in their finderscope just by following where the beam is pointing to. I once stunned an onlooker when I accidentally "shot down" a shooting star :)

all the best,

John
