Thanks for the advice lads. I think that there is an astronomy club here in Limerick. Must try and find out more details though.
Thanks again
Eoin

Hi Eoin
I happen to have an Atlas explorer 114 which my missus bought for me last christmas. The views of the planets are not quite as sharp as the Celestron 114 Firstscope but you would have to ask yourself if it's worth spending the extra money on the Celestron as it's twice the price.

Thanks Moe. Have you bought any extras for yours that have been worth while? Would a set of decent eyepieces make any difference for instance??

Thanks for the link Dave.
I went out tonight and had my first proper look around the sky with the scope.
First thing that I found was that I had little bit of dirt or dust between the lenses of the eyepieces - great start to the night
When I finally got around to looking around I managed to see a good few things.
I was able to get Mars, Saturn and its rings(both mars and Saturn both appeared as very bright objects and couldn't see detail, I presume this would be standard for the type of scope), the moon, the dogstar and a couple of other bright stars in the Eastern and Southern sky. Unfotunatley my view to the north and west is not great.
Was well chuffed with myself but already want to be able to see more!!

Hi Eoin
No I haven't got any extras so far. I was thinking of getting some decent eyepieces as the ones supplied are very basic. A good idea would be maybe to go along to a local club/ astronomy meeting with your scope and maybe borrow a good quality lense from someone. I'm not sure if the mirror on the scope is of low quality. Has anyone else any input on this? Also, does anyone know if the Atlas explorer is a Skywatcher product?
Moe.

Let's go burn down the observatory, so so this'll never happen again!
